5 Certifications To Know For Clean Beauty Safety

Independent certifications help you to make informed buying decisions. Sometimes you see a bunny or other icons that show your skincare product has been validated by a third party.

Why is this important to the beauty community? Since the laws related to ingredient safety in the US are limited, validation from an established third party matters. You are witnessing a safe beauty movement.

Established Certifications
1. LEAPING BUNNY (cruelty-free)
2. ECOCERT/COSMOS (natural or organic, sustainable)
3. MADE SAFE (nontoxic, cruelty-free, eco-conscious)
4. EWG VERIFIED (nontoxic)
5. NSF (nontoxic, eco-conscious)

LEAPING BUNNY
Requires documentation from the supplier that the ingredient is not tested on animals. Accepted in US, Canada, UK, much of EU.

ECOCERT and COSMOS
Ecocert has many available international certifications related to food, cosmetics, farming, and other areas. One is COSMOS, with strict standards for cosmetics and personal care including safe and eco-conscious production, non-GMO, banned ingredients, recyclable packaging and more.

MADE SAFE
US based with 6500 banned ingredients, non-GMO, sustainable sourcing and full disclosure of all beauty ingredients. This enables safer, transparent and eco-conscious cosmetic and personal care products.

EWG VERIFIED
Free from Environmental Working Group chemicals of concern. Follows strict standards to protect human health. Full disclosure of all ingredients including fragrance. EWG also ranks ingredient safety within its own Skin Deep system.

NSF
Internationally recognized. Validates organic content (min 70% by weight), traceability of ingredients and eco-conscious ingredient sourcing and manufacturing.
